Pennsylvania: Science It's Elementary Year Three Highlights

The Science: It's Elementary (SIC) program, developed by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, gave a presentation concerning the highlights of its achievement after its 3rd year. The program has expanded to include 2800 teachers and 67,000 students.

Over its three years, students have scored significantly higher on post-tests than pre-tests and achieved greater learning gains with SIC-supported modules and with teachers that have gone through the SIC-provided training. Teachers that have gone through the SIC program state that their perceptions of science content knowledge and their readiness to teach hands-on, inquiry based science increased significantly. Additionally, first year teachers who have gone through the SIC three-day training program showed the greatest gains from pre- to post-professional development sessions.
