Pennsylvania: Science It's Elementary Year Two Report

The Science: It's Elementary (SIC) program was developed and overseen by the Pennsylvania Department of Education with the goal of improving student achievement by helping schools implement an inquiry-based, hands-on science education. For its second year a combination of questionnaires, observations, interviews, and assessments were used to evaluate the program.

Overall, teachers, principles, and district staff members have responded positively to the program. Additionally, student achievement data has shown that the SIC program has a positive effect on students learning science. On five of the six achievement scales given in the fall and on 11 of the 13 scales given in the spring, students that learned science under the SIC program were shown to have significantly higher scores than students not in the program.
