The partnerships that the NSRC established
for the LASER Center include eight Regional LASER Sites
located in six geographically diverse regions of the United States. Some Regional Sites
were set up to serve selected client school districts from an entire state; some serve
school districts from part of a large state; and some serve districts from several smaller
states. The six regions and eight Regional LASER Sites are these:
Northwest Region
Southwest Region
Central Region
Southeast Region
Mid-Atlantic Region
New England Region
Each Regional LASER Site consists of a coalition of organizations from the region,
headed by a lead individual or organization. Regional coalitions include, for example,
academic institutions, corporations, museums, state departments of education, National
Science Foundation Systemic Initiative projects, and other organizations working on K-8
science education reform. Click on the name of a region in the preceding list for its
regional profile.
Each Regional Site selects local school districts to participate in the LASER
Center on the basis of extensive written applications
submitted by interested school districts. The districts selected become the client school
districts that participate in the extensive LASER initiation-phase
and implementation-phase programs and activities.
