Background
The Tri-State Regional LASER Site serves the school districts of the State of New Jersey and selected districts in southeastern Pennsylvania and south-central Connecticut. Client districts include both large, urban school districts and small, suburban and rural school districts.
Coalition Members
The Tri-State Regional LASER Site is a consortium of diverse institutions:
- Bristol-Myers Squibb Company—a large pharmaceutical company—began contributing to the reform of elementary science education in 1993. The Bristol-Myers Squibb Center for Science Education sponsors professional development training sessions for teachers in client school districts.
- The Merck Institute for Science Education was established in 1993 by Merck & Co., Inc.—the world’s largest pharmaceutical company—as a nonprofit organization based at Merck Research Laboratories in Rahway, New Jersey. The Institute sponsors professional development training sessions for teachers in client school districts.
- The New Jersey Statewide Systemic Initiative (NJSSI) provides logistical support and promotes professional development opportunities.
- Building Bridges to the Future Consortium brings together school districts, scientific corporations, and science organizations in central New Jersey, including Princeton University, Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory, the Invention Factory Science Center, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Cyanamid, FMC Corporation, and Union Camp Corporation. The Consortium provides training sessions for scientists and engineers in client school districts.
