Case studies of Scientist and Engineer Involvement in outreach

Case studies of scientists and engineers involved with outreach indicate specific ways that individuals can overcome challenges to become involved with outreach. These studies also convey their perspectives on what is gained through involvement.

  • The Space Science Institute has compiled a collection of “Profiles of Scientists in Education and Public Outreach”.
    • These interviews detail individual scientists’ experiences with education and public outreach efforts and include reflections on the challenges and benefits of their work.
  • The challenges that scientist or engineering student researchers face may differ from those that confront professionals, as these young scientists have a more specific need to develop a reputation and gain respect from the community as they pursue career opportunities. However, education and outreach efforts for these students can have a strong impact on developing their professional identity and passion for the field of science.
