STC/MS Earth Science Modules

Catastrophic Events

This STC/MS earth science unit builds on student interest in natural disasters to introduce students to the use of local and global data, simulations, and multimedia resources to investigate earthquakes, volcanoes, and atmospheric storms. From their investigations, students infer patterns, make predictions, and develop and support theories to explain past events and forecast future occurrences.

Earth in Space

In this STC/MS earth science unit students are introduced to relationships in the solar system (with special emphasis on the Sun-Earth-Moon system). This happens through observations of surface features, seasons, tides, and investigations of gravity and motion. Students will be challenged to model these phenomena and recognize that their models need to be compared with empirical data.
